Aella Rose-Hill is a costume designer, stitcher, dresser, and industrial embroiderer based in the Twin Cities area. They hold a BA in Theater Arts from the University of Iowa with a double minor in Cinematic Arts and African-American History. As a student they designed and assisted in designing over a dozen productions, culminating in the devised work Ascend in 2021. As many of these productions were global premieres of brand new works written by the University’s BA and MFA playwrights, this was also the beginning of their love for contemporary theater.

After graduating in 2021 Aella moved back to Minneapolis, and in the years following they continued to pursue both costume freelance work and garment decoration. In the summers of 2023 and 2024 they worked as a stitcher and head of wardrobe (Spiritus, Tornado Tastes Like Aluminum Sting) for the Contemporary American Theater Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Aella is currently a company member of Threshold Theater, a theater founded on producing new works from living LGBTQ+ playwrights. They also work with Chanhassen Dinner Theatre as a wardrobe swing (Grease, White Christmas) and at Artistry as a dresser/wardrobe swing (Shrek, Singin’ in the Rain) and stitcher (Once On This Island). They are also an industrial embroiderer for NUCOM Ltd. and Heiberg Athletics. They are always excited to collaborate with new theaters and decorators across the country!

Upcoming shows: A Faerie Tale of New York (Producer, Threshold Theater), Shrek (Designer/Costume Supervisor, Southwest High School), and RENT (Designer, MPLS Community Ed).
